What
Prithvi or ‘Earth’ element in Yogic philosophy corresponds to our feelings of calmness, groundedness, stability and support. When this element is imbalanced it leaves us in a state of fatigue, weakness, greed, insecurity and possessiveness.
Whether you are a follower of Yogic philosophy or not, the elements provide a symbolic reference to lifestyle behaviours that induce greater wellbeing if kept in balance. The purpose of this //1 Earth Retreat of the Elements Retreat Series is to provide more traditionally grounding practices of yoga asana and breathwork to rebalance our earth element. If you currently feel some of the negative traits listed above perhaps this is the break you need to recenter your body and mind into greater harmony.
This retreat is led by two of Hoi An’s experienced Yin and Restorative yoga teachers, who use the symbolism of the earth element in their sequences to enhance its ‘groundedness’ effect on their students' practice.
Yin
Yin yoga is a passive form of yoga which involves holding deep stretching poses for between 2-5 minutes. This practice of placing sustained, positive pressure on the target muscle groups allows for stretch beyond the superficial muscle layers and into the myofacial muscle network near the bones.
These areas rarely get attention like the way they do in the practice of Yin and therefore provides deep tension release. Yin yoga truly offers an opportunity to feel into your body and stimulate a part of the nervous system which switches the body into rest and recovery mode.
Restorative
In ‘Restore’ there is ‘rest’. In order to properly restore, body and mind, you’ll need to know how to properly put them to rest. In this class, you’ll be invited to a safe & comfortable space both physical and mental, with a lot of props to help your body hold a shape without the need to exert any effort.
When this happens, you can withdraw out of the way and allow your body to work on its own repair and restoration. This class also includes a simple & systematic method for relaxing that you can take home.
Breathwork/Meditation
In our breathwork and meditation segment we will focus on a range of breathing techniques that settle the mind into a more centred state. With the lungs empowered and the mind centred, we will then transition into a seated meditation. It’s in the practice of still meditation where the real change takes place, as a chinese proverb says, “One who has not mastered his own mind has mastered nothing.”
